Chief Tony Alexis has served as the leader of the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation since 2013, guiding the Nation through a period of growth, governance, and strategic development. His leadership is rooted in the protection of treaty rights, the strengthening of self-sufficiency, and the advancement of economic opportunities that ensure long-term sustainability for his people.
Working closely with his council, Chief Tony focuses on responsible governance that upholds the sovereignty of the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation. He leads efforts to create meaningful partnerships that foster economic growth while ensuring that the Nation retains control over its own future. His approach is both forward-thinking and deeply respectful of tradition, ensuring that progress does not come at the expense of cultural identity.
Chief Tony believes leadership is about being present with the people. A direct descendant of Chief Alexis, who signed the Adhesion to Treaty No. 6 in 1877, Chief Tony carries forward a legacy of leadership and advocacy. He recognizes the sacrifices and strength of the leaders before him and continues their work to secure a prosperous future for the Nation. Under his leadership, Alexis has expanded its economic base through business ventures that support employment and revenue generation, reinforcing the community’s self-sufficiency.
